Matching & Selection
The Giving Tree works diligently to match the families we prepare with children who need permanent
homes. Our matching process places great emphasis on the needs of each child and the skills,
abilities and expressed interests of potential adoptive parent(s). We actively work with the
Department of Human Resources/State Office of Adoptions and other state affiliates to become
familiar with the parenting needs of each child in foster care. After a family is approved to
adopt, we begin the search for a child whose needs match the strengths of the prospective adoptive
families. The duration of the matching process varies depending on the families' ability and
willfulness to parent a child with "Special Needs" When a match is made,
all information on the child is gathered by The Giving Tree and provided to the prospective family
in preparation for a formal presentation. Ultimately, the child's state affiliated Case Worker
makes the final decision about which prospective adoptive family is selected for each child's
placement.
